A Review of My Kenmore 13403 Dishwasher. It was purchased from Sears in 2015. It has the Stainless steel Tub and is also fairly quiet. THANKS for watching.

Your 1st cycle is very noisy I have the same washer and the beginning cycle is absolutely quiet. Perhaps you have extremely  hi water pressure In the house.

Hello Curtis I was wondering if you figured out your top rack lowers by the side handles to give you more height for your top rack . I just learned that today :)

Great lengthy review. Are you still happy with the dishwasher? Thanks for taking the time to review.

Curtis, nice review…and this particular model was on our list. But let me provide some more info. Almost all modern dishwashers have the same energy rating…and the reason why is because in their normal mode they no longer heat the water. Most of the energy cost posted on the energy rating guide is the cost of running the hot water heater…not the dishwasher. Our 15 year old dishwasher, which is still operating, heats both the wash water and the rinse water to 135 degrees. There is no way to tell it not to. It also has a high temp wash (adds only 5 more degrees) and a sani-rinse which pushes it to 155 degrees during the rinse process. We never use heated dry because the 135 degree rinse heats everything up plus it vents the hot air out when complete.

Unless your water heater is sitting right next to the dishwasher and is turned up to a high water degree temp, you need to make the dishwasher heat the water. Both the wash water and the rinse cycle. The high-temp only heats the wash…and sani-rinse heats both the wash and the rinse water, heating the rinse to a higher degree level. Without doing this, dishes are not properly cleaned, not rinsed well, and using the heated dry can give a false impression that the dishwasher is working well. Using the sani-rinse will allow the heated glassware to dry off, and thus using the heated dry (which uses energy) is not necessary. When our current dishwasher is operating and is finished, including an air-dry venting cycle, we open the lid a few inches and drying is fully complete in about thirty more minutes.

Don’t be fooled by all the fancy wash cycles and options….what you basically need is the “smart wash” and the sani-rinse option. The one-hour wash is also a good feature, if you need it, but it uses a lot more wash water to complete its job. The only design element that I don’t like on this model is the side exhaust vent. Thus we are going for model 13202 (white) which has the vent on the front where is properly belongs. Sadly it uses the plastic tub and thus it makes more noise when running than units with stainless steel interior, but the vent is were it belongs. Side vent exhausts would blow hot steamy air onto the side of our cabinets and under the lip of the counter top. Our current dishwasher vents that steamy air from the front…and our cabinets and counter top are not affected and thus I want to stay with that design.

The usage of the “rinse aid” is not a good idea…this chemical remains on the dishes and there is potential that it could be harmful in the long run…after all you are eating and drinking off those items. People who complain that their modern dishwashers don’t wash or dry well are probably washing their dishes with warm and/or cold water without fully understanding that that is what’s happening.

The energy ratings (yellow tags) assume you have a water heater sitting right next to the dishwasher, and that it puts out really hot hot water, which is nonsense. You have to heat the wash and rinse water. Hope that helps potential buyers.

I have been looking at this model at Sears, so I was happy to find your review. It is very informative and I appreciate your taking the time to film this review. I am sure I will purchase this unit for our home. Thanks alot for your time, Curtis. Well done!

I’m never buying another kenmore from sears…the parts are chincy, and it does not clean well, just blasts dirt onto the dishes so they need a hand wash…we have had it a year and the water NO LONGER HEATS, so it basicly does a cold wash and cant heat dry. MAde in China crud…our old washer was an OLD GE that was going strong for 20 years before the elements burned out….more fool us for buying Kenmore china made rubbish.

the face is not stainless and will rust, when it does sears will do nothing to help you

New dishwashers dissapoint me. They take too long to clean and don’t use enough water and are cheaply built even if they are made in usa. I choose to buy old kenmores they actually dissolve food and are more powerful. Today’s dishwasher can’t be too efficient if you have to wash dishes twice.. That cute stainless steel front doesn’t hide the fact that you will be replacing it in 5 -6 years.
