#4 Friedrich PH14B 13,500 BTU w/ Heater

At number 4 we have chosen to go with the Friedrich PH14B 13,500 BTU portable AC with heat pump. It’s a great machine that does an excellent job of cooling and heating for your room. Depending on the number of people and the type of area that you’re trying to cool, at 13,500 BTUs this machine is capable of working in a room that is just under 500 square feet. Although, as per the manufacturer this machine is capable of cooling rooms up to 700 square feet.

To be honest this manufacturer has always been kind of an unknown to us, although over the past year has proven to be one of the best in the dual hose department. This machine is also capable of heating at 11,000 BTUs, has 4 operational modes including a dehumidifier, 3 fan speeds, 24-hour timer, 6 foot long power cord, casters, handles and more.

#3 Whynter ARC-12SD 12,000 BTU

Coming in at number 3 we have chosen to go with the Whynter ARC-12SD 12,000 BTU portable air conditioner. The reason why we have chosen this machine is because of its cooling ability at such a low price tag. Many single hose models cost just as much but don’t cool anywhere near as efficiently. Also, this machine is built by one of the most reliable and durable manufacturers on the market. Whynter has been in the industry for a very long time and has produced many top rated single and dual hose air conditioners that are available for home and business users.

At 12,000 BTU this AC is capable of cooling rooms up to 400 square feet. However, some claim that they can get just as much cooling power in rooms that are slightly larger. While this model includes 3 operational modes, the SDH model bumps that up to 4 by including a heater as well.

#2 Toyotomi TAD-T40LW 14,000 BTU w/ Heater

Next up at number 2 we have chosen the Toyotomi TAD-T40LW 14,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with heat pump. This Japanese made brand is probably another unknown to many in the AC market, although it’s definitely not a machine to pass by.

This 14,000 BTU AC can cool rooms up to 500 square feet and also heat rooms at a power of 11,000 BTU. Besides Whynter, we have to admit that this is probably one of the more powerful, durable and efficient portable AC’s that we have ever used. We know that there are many people that only swear by American products, although you may be greatly surprised at this manufacturer’s quality if you take a chance on this unit.

The Toyotomi is also capable of self evaporating its excess condensation. However, if you simply use it as an air conditioner there is a very small chance you will have to worry about regular drainage or watching your machine for spills.

#1 Whynter ARC-14S 14,000 BTU

Last but not least, at number 1 we have selected the Whynter ARC-14S 14,000 BTU portable AC. This is possibly one of the most popular and most purchased portable AC units that you will find online. This model has gone through many changes over the years, and is now one of the more modern looking, durable and advanced machines that you will find in its class.

The great thing about this powerful machine is its ability to cool your room in a short amount of time. While running at 14,000 BTUs, this machine is capable of maintaining temperatures in rooms around 500 square feet and larger. The ARC-14S has three operational modes although is also capable of 4 modes if you opt for their SH model instead. Not only that, but the ARC-14S is also capable of automatic shut off, auto drain technology, 24 hour timer mode and more.

Another bonus about this unit is that it regularly goes on sale. So you can easily pick it up for just as much and sometimes less than the cost of a single hose unit.

I have a Soleus lx140, had to pull it out, I knew it was becoming clogged. I’ve had dogs out side and in and its about twelve years old. I think I’m gonna video the process. Watched your video to see if my unit was on your list.

Lewis Balentine says:

Dual hose units do NOT have two exhausts. They have one intake and one exhaust. Saying that they have two exhausts diminishes your credibility.

The only kind of portable conditioners that actually works !

Kurt Reber says:

Which one is the most quiet?

Charles Badstones says:

Single hose units should be banned and made illegal. They are a disgrace to engineering. They are fundamentally flawed in that they DO NOT WORK. The negative pressure in your room draws in air from other rooms or outside so you are constantly cooling the entire world. Also if you just cooled off one room and moved it to another room then it will suck all the air out of that room……guess what air replaces it in that room. HOT outside air!!!! (through cracks and leaks in the room, nothing is really air tight totally) Seriously, my dad is refrigeration technician for his entire life and gets angry at the mention of them. The person who approved the design knows jack shit about engineering or likes to rip people off with half ass non effective designs. Make those frigin things illegal. If you are someone who works in the industry with these things you should put forth a motion to whatever governing agency dictates their aspects to ban them.

Fusion Player says:

are there any cheaper options like 100-200?

David Courtney says:

Reduce background music by about 75%

Cleatus Spengler says:

American products? Only backwards chest beaters chant that crap- Nothing is built exclusively in America. Parts are almost always from China and its assembled by illegals…

Tulsatom Bob says:

I have a single hose Toyotomi Model TID1200, that’s probably several years old in a small apartment I’m renting in Buenos Aires where it’s very humid in the summer. The small room is not very airtight and the compressor seems to kick on 30-45% of the time. The rest of the time it blows hot air. It has a selector knob on the back, which doesn’t make much difference. Would it help to recharge the compressor with new freon?
Any suggestions or ideas besides throwing it out of the building would be appreciated.

Antonio Ponce says:

typo on first unit its 13,500 not 13,5000

Background music made it difficult to understand the person speaking at some points. Not opposed to the music, just decrease the percentage ratio of music to human voice. Otherwise, thanks for the info!

How to fix an electrical plug over heating issue?

Charlene Fipps says:

What’s going on w my friedrich portable double hose air conditioning, I need a trouble shooting…..problem, How do I drain my air Conditioning?

Warren MacDonald says:

Thanks for diplomatically explaining that 1 hose units take the air that you’ve just paid your utility company money to cool, and vent a lot of it outside by cooling the condensing coils.

Ryan Chang says:

Whynter has a new ELITE model (ARC-122DS Elite) which has 6 features that the Whynter units in this video don’t have. Their new Elite model is the best model on the market for the price. Look into it!

1. Better EER efficiency rating
2. Washable Filter
3. Full 1 year warranty instead of 1 year limited warranty
4. Quieter at 52db instead of 56db
5. 90 day return policy instead of 30 days
6. Sleep setting

You guys should review it instead of these units.

Esiquio Cervantes says:

you mention how effective the dehumidifier that’s built in is..
