Aeropress Coffee and Espresso Maker Review

Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Aeropress Coffee and Espresso Maker. LINK to Aeropress Coffee and Espresso Maker:
LINK to Aeropress Replacement Filters: The Aeropress brews 1 to 4 cups of espresso or coffee using air-pressure. The Aeropress includes the chamber with markings 1 to 4, cap, plunger, coffee scoop, coffee stirrer, a funnel, 350 microfilters and a holder for the filters.
The unit measures 10 inches tall and is the size of a large drinking glass. It weighs less than 7 ounces so it’s extremely light. The Aeropress is made in the USA of BPA free plastic. I’ll show you how to make a cup of regular american coffee, about 8 ounces. Put a filter in the cap and screw on the chamber. Put the chamber on a sturdy cup, not a flimsy or paper cup. Put in 1 scoop of fine drip or espresso grind. Do not use coarse coffee grinds like you would in a standard drip coffee maker. You can use the funnel if you want but I don’t think you’ll need to since the chamber is wide enough to fit the scooper. Shake the chamber to level the coffee and put it on the cup. Pour in hot water to the 2 marking. Stir for 10 seconds. Insert plunger and press gently for 20 to 60 seconds until the plunger goes all the way down. The first time you do it, it’ll seem really difficult to push down but after a few times, it will get easier. For me, two hands work better than one. Do not press hard.

That’s it, the result is like a coffee concentrate.
Right after brewing, remove the cap, push the plunger to eject the coffee puck. Rinse off the rubber seal to clean it. The seal wipes the chamber clean so there is really no need to clean the chamber. Store the Aeropress with the plunger pushed all the way in which should keep the seal free of compression for long life. If the rubber seal becomes loose, don’t use it because hot water could shoot up. Get a replacement seal.

You can drink this straight like espresso. It’s smooth and not bitter. I’ll add hot water to make a total of 8 ounces of american coffee. Add some sugar and half and half. Now you have a regular cup of coffee. It’s a good, smooth cup of coffee. Because of the microfilter, there is no grit at the bottom of your cup. With drip coffee makers and french press, there is always grit in my cup and that affects the taste of the coffee. The aeropress makes a really clean cup of coffee.

To make a latte or cappuccino, fill the chamber with water to 1 or 1.5, stir for 10 seconds, press and then add milk to your cup. You can press two or three servings at once by increasing the amount of coffee and water. So this is not just a single serve unit. You can also adjust the strength of coffee by increasing or decreasing the amount of water before pressing.

The water you use should be 175 degrees fahrenheit. You don’t want to use boiling water. In my microwave, I heat 8 ounces water for 1 minute 30 seconds and that reaches 175 degrees, yes I measured so you don’t have to. If you heat up water in a pot on the stove, it should take about one minute.

The coffee grounds are immersed in water so all the flavor of the coffee is in your water when it brews. The acid level of the coffee is supposed to be lower than regular drip brew so if your stomach is sensitive to coffee, this should be easier on your stomach. I’d love to know if you have experienced this, so leave me a comment below.

The pushing down is the one thing that does take some getting used to. Also you have to heat up your water and get a feel for the right temperature. So it’s a manual unit, not an automatic espresso machine or drip coffee maker that does all the thinking for you.

I like the size and simplicity of this unit. It’s a gentle machine, usually every product I review makes noise. The Aeropress just quietly makes good coffee, there are no beeps, no hissing, no noise period. There’s also minimal cleanup. It’s compact so it takes up very little counter space. It’s light and portable, you can take it along if you go camping. The replacement filters, a pack of 350 are about $5. The unit is around $30 so it’s affordable. Overall, the Aeropress is a good value for those who want a good, clean cup of coffee quickly without the bells and whistles.
