2018 Most Reliable Appliance Brands

In this video, you will learn the best brands based on 30,761 service calls logged in 2017.

I enjoyed the video and appreciate the information, but I found the background music a bit to loud.

What about Kitchenaid

Pete Barry says:

I like Amana. I’ve had my refrigerator for more than 23 years. I’ve had to replace the evaporator fan motor and the condenser fan motor. Now, the ice cube tray has a hole in it.
I have had the same success from my Amana washer and dryer. The washer developed a leak, that I couldn’t fix, about 18 years in. The dryer is still going, but I have replaced the motor, the belt and the hot surface igniter.

Shelley Sellars-Smith says:

My Duet Whirlpool washer/dryer set turned 17 in March and never had one service call. I am almost wishing something would happen so I can upgrade to the steam dryer and the washer within a washer model.

I own a kenmore top loading washer for 18 years ..No complains here!

Aleks says:

I can appreciate the transparency in how you arrived at your data, the only thing I’d like to see is long term performance, 2-5 years. Good job, Yale

Mark Walker says:

Why did GE not rank?

Odessa Baker says:

Appreciate the pros and cons on each brand….very helpful!

Fred Collier says:

“Even the most reliable appliances may need service within 3 – 5 years”. NO SIR! BOATLOAD OF CRAP!! This is just the new norm they would like the customer to settle for. Absolutely not! Most of the appliances I own or have owned have lasted for years. This is just a sorry excuse for poor quality.

Thank you so much

Miss desire Independance says:

I brought a whirlpool refrigerator and had trouble with it after a year. I had to call a repair technican several time to fix parts. I would not say they are the best brand. If others had a similar experience I would like you to chime in. I will try Frigidaire next time.

Shane Pasha says:

If your appliance breaks down sooner than it is expected to have any issues, you are not going to be happy and you will be saying things like “I will never buy this brand again.
I believe the lesser features an appliance has the better it performs and visa versa.

I am planning on purchasing a 30” wolf Induction Range some time in the not so distant future and from my readings it’s more reliable than Viking.

When it comes to brands, I prefer Whirlpool especially for dishwashers and refrigerators. I had a Whirlpool refrigerator last 18 years without a single repair. I have a Frigidaire, and it’s the worst brand I ever had for a refrigerator. While it hasn’t had a repair yet, but they do a poor job at keeping even cooling. I especially like Whirlpool dishwashers, because some models have the silverware rack on the door, so additional dishes can be put on the bottom rack. For microwave ovens, I like Sharp the best, because of proper heating, but most reliable in my opinion. Ranges, I prefer Whirlpool as well. For washers and dryers, I soak far prefer LG, because they have a couple of features I like, especially the Turbo Wash (will be included for my next washer). I only owned one other front loader washer, and that was a Frigidaire that I bought in 1999. That was ok, and simple model. For top loaders, I had 2 bad experiences in the 90’s with a Kenmore made by Whirlpool, because Whirlpool liked putting the dual agitators on their washers, that I had twisted and torn clothes from it. The overall worst top loader was a Hotpoint made by GE, and it broke in less than 3 years. The repairman could not get it fixed to work properly after that. I later learned 2 years after junking it, as part of Circuit City’s no lemon policy, that there was a recall on the 1996 and 1997 models, but GE never bothered to contact me about the recall, and I did register my appliances with them. My family overall had the most problems with GE, that I will never consider their appliances ever again. If I move into a place that has GE, and I have the money to replace them, they’re gone immediately.

Eddie Regory says:

I fix everything myself. I would never hire a contractor to fix my appliances. Either you delve into what you don’t understand or you’ll continue to get ripped off. Also, get your information from Consumer Reports. An unbiased found and true resource you can rely on if you don’t know what to look for in a new appliance. This “Yale” thing I’ve never even heard of. I believe 20/20 did a special on appliances and it turned out that NONE of them were all that reliable anymore. Even the technicians agreed with that. The reason? Because the sale doesn’t end at the point of purchase. It continues with service calls and that’s how these companies make their money. Also, when buying an appliance, FORGET all the bells and whistles. For instance, most all side by side refrigerators require the most repair. Go simple. If you don’t then you could have a tech come out and replace a motherboard or whatever much sooner than you thought.. There isn’t anything I can’t fix but for the average person who wants their appliances to work, is what these companies are gambling on for future pocket gouging.

C Minneapolis says:

Most notably missing are: Kenmore and LG? Is there a reason? Did you have a list of other models that you tested that did not make your top 10 list??

David Rajewski says:

Awesome idea for how to judge reliability. Thanks for the great video.

Joshua Hodges says:

Very helpful
